The industrial style goes very well with the whole kitchen concept because it’s based on materials such as stainless steel, iron, rough wood, etc. and these materials are often incorporated in the kitchen décor no matter what, especially because of all the appliances. So industrial-style bar stools often feature simple designs with metallic structures and wooden seats, sometimes being all-metal.
The last element to take into consideration before purchasing kitchen counter stools is the style. Some designs have seat back, others don’t, some have armrests as opposed to others which are simple plus other distinctions such as between swivel and non-swivel stools, upholstered and non-upholstered models, adjustable and stationery designs, etc.
You should also measure the space between the seat of the stool and the underside of the counter. A 9” to 12” space is a good choice. This means you and your guests would be able to sit comfortably without touching the counter with your knees. But measurements aren’t everything. You also need to think about the style of your counter-height bar stools, the materials they’re made of, their color and their number.
Bar stools are really versatile and often preferred for spaces such as the kitchen. But did you know there’s more than one type of bar stool? In fact there are four. The short or table-height stools are anywhere between 16” to 23” tall and they’re a good alternative to the standard dining chairs. You can safely use them for the breakfast nook.
Of course, the backrest isn’t the only thing that makes a bar stool comfortable. Its entire design and structure are important. The type you choose has to do with the size of the room, its function and also how often you plan on using the stools. You should focus on the height, material and style of the stool. For example, decide whether you want a swivel system or not and, if you plan on getting a backless design, the seat should be padded and big enough to be comfortable.
Another good example of simple design that fit in a variety of interior designs is that featured by Stool_One by Magis. Here you can see it displayed in a contemporary setting where it complements a large kitchen island.
Of course, before any of that you should decide whether or not counter-height chairs are the best choice for your home. To help you decide, let’s made a quick comparison between standard and counter-height stools and the tables that match them. Standard tables are the most common and this means they come in a large variety of sizes, designs and finishes so it would be easier to find something you like in this category. Also, because standard-height tables are so common, people are more used with them and thus find them more comfortable. Another argument in their favor is the fact that they’re better for disabled people.
We’re now going to step away from all the different styles and talk a little about suspended bar stools. They don’t exactly fit in a particular style because they can have all sorts of designs and yet their defining feature will be the fact that they’re suspended. It’s a characteristic that can be applied to modern and contemporary furniture but also to traditional and even rustic or industrial pieces. One of the defining characteristics of these pieces is the fact they they are space-saving and very functional.
